Dear Mama: I Will Always Be There

Some moments in motherhood are so simple, yet they stay in your heart forever. They shape who you are as a mother, as a woman, and as a person.

This is a story about one of those moments — when a single word, spoken by the tiniest voice, becomes everything.
The moment my daughter called me “Amma” is something I can never forget.
It felt like the greatest achievement, the most precious gift,
and the best feeling in the world.
From the very beginning, I had always dreamed of having a girl and a boy.
So the second time, as I lay down in the operation theatre,
waiting to hear whether it was a boy or a girl,
the moment I heard the baby’s cry,
and the doctor congratulated me saying,
“It’s a baby boy”
my heart flooded with joy.
In that moment, I knew —
I was a mother of two.
A girl and a boy, just as I had dreamed.
Life feels so full with these two little ones.
And I always want them to know,
to remember,
that their Amma has been with them through thick and thin.
I will always do whatever it takes to keep them safe and happy.
To raise them strong,
to teach them how to face the world.
The list of what I wish for them is long.
But if they remember just one thing,
I want it to be this:
That their Amma has been there for them every step of the way,
and will be there for them,
till my very last breath.
This is a mother’s story.
One moment, one word,
that holds a lifetime of love.
If you have a story to share — big or small, quiet or loud —
this space is here for you.
