The Meadow Waited

The meadow and its wildflowers felt familiar, like home. The sheer vastness of it was freeing. I laid down, letting the earth, flowers and breeze tickle and embrace me all over while awaiting my one and only.
The sun shone bright, but its warmth escaped me, for I craved his touch, his arms, his lips. I felt like Snow White waiting for her Prince after taking a bite of the dreaded poisoned apple, I felt like only he could soothe this uneasy feeling.
I saw him, walking towards me with a lovely bouquet of white roses; my favourite.
He sat beside me, wordlessly. We stayed that way for a while. I held my breath, afraid to speak.
And then, he finally did-
“I wish none of this happened. I didn't mean to make you wait this long. You have been patient. And so have I. We belong together now.”
He reached out and held my hand.
Before I could say a word, the earth pulled us in, our souls merged in another realm, though our bodies remained separate, I felt the truth settle in my chest.
We are reunited in death.
